The Progressive Web Apps (PWA) add-on helps convert your website into an app-like experience on mobile devices.
When a visitor opens the site on a phone, the browser will suggest “Add to Home Screen”. After the user agrees, the site is installed in the background as an app and will later be available as an icon on the phone’s home screen.
You can set the app name and description and upload icons in all required sizes.
The add-on requires an SSL certificate installed (the site must run over HTTPS).
Here is a quote from one of the Google Developers experts, Sergey Pugachyov:
Today, having a PWA is a competitive advantage.
For example, Twitter’s PWA increased the number of pages viewed per session by 65%. With a PWA, Lancôme increased conversions by 17%. OLX showed even more impressive results and increased repeat visits (re-engagements) by 250%. There are many examples like this. Soon, having a PWA will be essential for any serious business, and the lack of one will be seen as a significant drawback.
We also want to add that Apple is currently strongly resisting PWA adoption because this technology could significantly reduce the App Store market. As a result, launching a web-based app for iPhone users is not as simple or intuitive as it is for Android users. If most of your audience uses iPhones, this plugin may be less relevant for you for now.
